Four Year Old Class

Our 4 year old program is quite unique. During most of the morning, the children are given a choice of three classrooms with different activities in each. The children learn how to make decisions and acquire a sense of independence when participating in this program. In the art room, the children express their creativity with a structured project and at least one free project, such as play doh, easel painting or chalk art. Each child will participate in the art room during the week, daily if they choose.
The active room is as the name suggests - a place where the children can play with big blocks, the housekeeping center, the sand table and many other activities.
The quiet room is a refuge where the children can play with table-top manipulatives, games, puzzles, legos or have a story read to them. Each child has an alphabet workbook and the teacher helps them learn to write and identify the letters of the alphabet when in this room.
The children learn how to make decisions and acquire a sense of independence when participating in this program.
Each week a letter is introduced. Many activities including art projects, show and tell and circle-time revolve around the sound the letter makes.
After activity time the children will gather for circle time. They will discuss the calendar, weather, music and then enjoy a snack. The children play on the playground every day that the weather permits. During the year the children will learn sign langage. They will also learn about geography, science and math.
There are 16 children and two teachers in each class.
